‘Raven’ by Sue Brown is an unusual portrayal of this mysterious bird. They feature greatly in mythology and for the ancient tribes of Britain and Ireland the raven represented the goddess of death and war. This has led to different interpretations but she was not always feared. On the battled field this goddess could be seen as a bringer of blessings, taking the dying across the river and guiding their spirit onwards. It is lovely to see this creature presented in such a positive light, face full of expression. The artist’s skill has created a beautiful feeling to the feathers and a background which is intricate and striking. Both appear slightly separate but work in harmony with each other.
